Watches

It is very easy to develop a fetish with wrist watches. First of all, they are extremely fascinating. There is something uniquely awesome about a small network of machines ticking away on your arm, all its little pins and gears working together in perfect synchronization to keep your time running. One cannot help but stare in wonder at the transparent bottoms of Rolex time pieces.

Aside from their usefulness and the extraordinary way they achieve it, watches are undeniable things of beauty. They could come in different sizes and styles. They could be made from various materials- metal alloys, plastics or rubber. They could be designed for maximum wear, for yachting, for diving, for plying an aircraft or for playing sports; they could even be made from gold, studded with jewels and precious stones or be simple and unadorned. Whatever the size, style or design, each timepiece is carefully crafted by brilliant and capable hands.

If the natural charms of wrist watches are not enough to get you hooked, the lure of advertisement will. Who could ever resist Tiger Woods, Uma Thurman, Kimi Raikonen, Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig or John Travolta?

Granted that watches could go from plain old necessities to staggering luxury items, the wrist watch is an indispensable part of a person’s fashion ensemble.

Friend’s Farewell to Singlehood

Date Posted: January 24th, 2009 Posted Under: Events and Occasions

A couple of months from now, my friend Angeline is going to say farewell to singlehood and marry her friend Jeffrey. After a sweet marriage proposal by Jeff last Christmas Eve, the two have decided to make their relationship permanent this coming April. They have been together for more than three years and I think it’s just about time that they settle down for good. They are going to make their vows in front of God and hundreds of guests as witnesses.

Because of the upcoming wedding of Angeline with Jeff, we decided to give a memorable shower party to Angeline. The party is going to be held on the second week of February and there’s going to be a simple program. We all agreed that we all have to wear costumes to make the party more fun. I’m not sure if there are going to be boys during the shower party but I don’t think Angeline is into that. Anyway, for sure, there’s going to be a little competition on who’s going to wear the best costume on that party.

We are all excited for Angeline but we are a bit lonely at the same time. We all know that her time with us, her friends, will now be limited because she will have her own family soon.

Hem-Footwear Match-Up

Date Posted: January 24th, 2009 Posted Under: Fashion and Clothing

A lot of people say that if you don’t happen to be wearing your best clothes, you should just make up for it with a lovely face. While this is particularly reasonable advice, it tends to take away well-deserved, not to mention necessary attention to a specific aspect of your get-up: the point where your hemline or your pants meet your footwear. The hem-footwear match-up is just as important as any part of your attire because a simple glitch in this department could ruin the whole ensemble. Here are some helpful pointers to keep that from happening:

Like should beget like. This is very simple, very practical and banks solely on common sense. Wear your leather or classy sandals with your business suit or other dressy outfits. Go for flip flops, loafers, walking sandals or sneakers with jeans, shorts and skirts. Simply put, wear formal footwear only with formal wear and wear casual footwear with casual clothes.

For boots: Boots that have pointed toes go best with full length slacks or jeans, any type of bottoms that reaches the heels. If you have a calf length boots with pointed toes, do not tuck your pants inside the boots. The Aladdin look has long gone out of style, I assure you. Round-toe boots go well with full-length pants as well but they also look good with skirts. Both the round and the pointed toe style goes well with non-fitting mid-calf length slacks as long as the pair is calf length. Wear hiking boots only with jeans or walking shorts.

Flat sandals and flip flops look good with shorts and tight fitting casual short skirts. For other styles of skirts, wear sandals that are slightly elevated.

Black is Beautiful

Date Posted: January 24th, 2009 Posted Under: Fashion and Clothing

“Black is beautiful” is a popular fashion adage, so to speak. The fact that this is an accepted fashion ‘dogma’ is verified by the phrase “— is the new black” which has experienced several incarnations through time. It has gone from “Red is the new black” to “Gold is the new black” to “Green is the new black.”… Into whatever color one could possibly insert into the catch phrase. One could not help but wonder: What is it exactly with the color black that makes it the touchstone for fashion and beauty?

The foremost reason for this reputation is that black is simple yet elegant. One can never go wrong with black; it can neither be too flashy like the color red nor too light that is almost imperceptible like the color white. It also gives the wearer an aura of authority, mystery and class. Now, who wouldn’t want that? Despite being dark, it does not tend to merely blend with the background; on the contrary, it is more apt to get noticed.

Black clothes are also easy to complement, any color of footwear and accessories would fit appropriately with a black colored ensemble. What’s more, accessories get more emphasized (and thus appreciated) when worn with dark clothing.

No other color could probably replace the effect that the color black has on beauty and fashion. Other “new blacks” may come and go but black will always be the black.
