Hem-Footwear Match-Up

A lot of people say that if you don’t happen to be wearing your best clothes, you should just make up for it with a lovely face. While this is particularly reasonable advice, it tends to take away well-deserved, not to mention necessary attention to a specific aspect of your get-up: the point where your hemline or your pants meet your footwear. The hem-footwear match-up is just as important as any part of your attire because a simple glitch in this department could ruin the whole ensemble. Here are some helpful pointers to keep that from happening:

Like should beget like. This is very simple, very practical and banks solely on common sense. Wear your leather or classy sandals with your business suit or other dressy outfits. Go for flip flops, loafers, walking sandals or sneakers with jeans, shorts and skirts. Simply put, wear formal footwear only with formal wear and wear casual footwear with casual clothes.

For boots: Boots that have pointed toes go best with full length slacks or jeans, any type of bottoms that reaches the heels. If you have a calf length boots with pointed toes, do not tuck your pants inside the boots. The Aladdin look has long gone out of style, I assure you. Round-toe boots go well with full-length pants as well but they also look good with skirts. Both the round and the pointed toe style goes well with non-fitting mid-calf length slacks as long as the pair is calf length. Wear hiking boots only with jeans or walking shorts.

Flat sandals and flip flops look good with shorts and tight fitting casual short skirts. For other styles of skirts, wear sandals that are slightly elevated.
